ACTA Developing ModRUM: a standardised, generic, modular resource-use measure

Topics:HEAT SIG

Despite the importance of the 'cost' part of cost-effectiveness, resource-use measurement in empirical studies has had a chequered history. Health economists typically collect data from patients via questionnaires; however, such questionnaires rarely undergo suitable testing of measurement properties including validity and acceptability.

In this seminar, we will provide an overview of the development of ModRUM, a generic, modular resource-use measure designed for use in the United Kingdom. ModRUM aims to increase standardisation while maintaining flexibility to allow for relevant data to be collected in a wide range of studies. ModRUM includes healthcare, social care, informal care and aids/adaptations modules.

Ongoing work includes the development of an electronic version of ModRUM. We are keen to explore opportunities to expand its use. We would be interested to hear your views on potential adaptations needed for the Australian context and what the validation process might entail.
