Developing ModRUM: a standardised, generic, modular resource-use measure

Topics:Health Economist HEAT SIG

Despite the importance of the ‘cost’ part of cost-effectiveness, resource-use measurement in empirical studies has had a chequered history. Health economists typically collect data from patients via questionnaires; however, such questionnaires rarely undergo suitable testing of measurement properties including validity and acceptability.

In this seminar, we provide an overview of the development of ModRUM, a generic, modular resource-use measure designed for use in the United Kingdom. ModRUM aims to increase standardisation while maintaining flexibility to allow for relevant data to be collected in a wide range of studies. ModRUM includes healthcare, social care, informal care and aids/adaptations modules.
