Workshop for New and Emerging CTNs at ACTA Summit 2020: Establishing a CTN: A facilitated
workshop for clinicians and researchers.
ACTA’s Clinical Trial Network Sector Expansion Reference Group ran a workshop at the ACTA
Summit, on the 4th of December 2020.
The focus of the ACTA workshop was establishing clinical trial networks. Prof Chris Reid (ACTA) was
the chair of the workshop. Prof John Zalcberg (ACTA) presented an overview of ACTA’s work to
establish clinical trial networks. Dr Phyllis Lau (AAAPC President) presented on Enhancing Primary
Care Research: National network of Practice-Based Research Networks (PBRNs). Dr Peter Pockney
presented on Surgical trainees’ and students’ clinical trials and audits – lessons and opportunities
from the Sunrrise Trial and COVIDSurg projects. Prof Susan Rossell presented on the development of
the Mental Health Australia General Clinical Trials Network (MAGNET) an adult mental health
network and synergies with the Australian Youth and Child Research National Network (AYCoRNN) a
separate child and youth network. Marios Constantinou presented an overview of Multi-centre
clinical trials research for eye disease through an Eye Trial Research Network. This was followed by a
moderated discussion with the speakers. The workshop was well received with lots of debate and
discussion.
