ABC of Writing Grants
This session takes you through the facets of writing successful grant applications, including understanding the structure of the new NHMRC grant system, how to include consumers in your application, and systematic reviews.


Embedding clinical trials: bring your own trial proposal—leave with it embedded
Leading this session is Prof Derek C. Angus from the University of Pittsburgh’s Department of Critical Care Medicine, Prof Steve Webb, Professor of Critical Care Research at Monash University, and Prof Nik Zeps, Director of Research for Epworth HealthCare. Bring your trial proposal to this workshop and our experts will give you the skills to embed it.

In this practical session, A/Prof Rachael Morton, who specialises in trial-based and modelled economic evaluation, will help you understand how to include a health economics assessment as part of your trial.

Dr Stuart Spencer is Executive Editor of leading medical journal, The Lancet. Join us as he shares his insights through the golden dos and don’ts of getting published in The Lancet; Prof Ian Marschner gives his advice on common statistical mistakes and how to avoid them; and Dr Sherilyn Goldstone will share her experience on getting your message across with glammed-up graphs and figures.


Data safety and monitoring – the ABC of SDMCs
Prof Ian Marschner and Prof Val Gebski will lead this workshop demonstrating the roles, responsibilities and processes for Safety Data Monitoring Committees (SDMCs). Topics covered include the statistical principals underlying recommendations, dealing with emerging evidence and special challenges and problems. There will be case studies and mock IDSMCs.
