Dr. Lehana Thabane is Vice President (Research) at St. Joseph’s Healthcare–Hamilton and St. Joseph’s Health System, as well as Scientific Director of the Research Institute at St. Joseph’s Healthcare–Hamilton. He is a Professor of Biostatistics in the Department of Health Research Methods, Evidence, and Impact, and an Associate member of several clinical departments at McMaster University in Canada.

A highly distinguished scholar, Dr. Thabane is a Fellow of the World Academy of Sciences, the Royal Society of Canada, the Canadian Academy of Health Sciences, the Society for Clinical Trials, the American Statistical Association, and the African Academy of Sciences. He is also a Foreign Associate Member of the Academy of Sciences of South Africa. His numerous accolades include the Neil & Anne McArthur Research Award, the Statistical Society of Canada’s Award for Impact of Applied and Collaborative Work, and an Honorary Doctorate from Stellenbosch University.

Dr. Thabane is deeply committed to public service. He chairs the Board of Directors of the Canadian Medical Hall of Fame and serves on several other boards, including Baycrest Academy, Homewood Research Institute, and SolidarMed Lesotho. He also chairs the Methodology Committee for PCORI, a U.S.-based nonprofit established through the 2010 Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act.

He has held visiting professorships at leading universities worldwide, including institutions in South Africa, Brazil, Korea, Australia, Ireland, and China. With over 1,300 peer-reviewed publications, Dr. Thabane is a globally recognized educator, mentor, and one of the most highly cited scientists in the world.
