What is a Datathon?
A datathon is an interactive event where participants work together in teams to solve a clinical question through applying data science tools and techniques to analyse large dataset(s). Clinicians and data scientists (including trainees) work together to generate insights and potential solutions to clinical questions.
The contents of the clinical databases made available at the datathon have been derived from original data that has been curated to preserve privacy and is considered de-identified, while providing enough information for meaningful analyses. Access will only be given under the terms and conditions described in the non-disclosure document signed by each participant.
The datathon allows for an exploratory process to be undertaken and provisional findings to be developed. We hope findings or signals will encourage further exploration using a formal applications and ethics process. Although participants will be able to retain the code developed on the day, the datasets will be destroyed at the completion of the Datathon.
